The staff at the Multilingual and Multicultural Center and the Make It Happen! program at Portland Public Schools would like to express our condolences to the family of Julie Goell.
In addition to her long-time support of the Multilingual Center’s annual fundraiser, Rock Around the World, Julie was a revered volunteer for many years providing academic coaching and mentoring for students in the Make It Happen! program at Lincoln Middle School and Deering High School. The Make It Happen! program is an academic support and college readiness program for multilingual students of the Portland Public Schools. Julie supported students with both language acquisition and academic studies. She often went the extra mile for her students and served as a mentor, a friend, and a tutor. She invited her students to attend her many delightful puppet shows. Julie took an interest in three special students that she coached and mentored from middle through high school graduation. Today, these three students are currently enrolled in college. Julie always encouraged her students to excel in their areas of interests and to pursue their dreams with passion.
We are honored to have been associated with such an extraordinary person and community member as Julie Goell.
